Come In, See What’s New

Do you see anything new on this site this morning? Check the right side where the books are. There it isBy the Fright of the Silvery Moon! Right in there with the other five cozies and it looks comfortably at home. Thanks, webmaster Matt.

My yard is wet and soggy this morning but the flowers are showing their bright faces in the gloom. Last night, lightning danced around and ear-popping thunder! Rain! We’ve had such a nice summer with temperatures below 100 degrees and enough rain that the grass hasn’t really suffered. Now, for a cool, rainy fall! Once school starts, I’m ready for fall.

It is with a great deal of sadness that I think of how quiet London will be for four years without the presence of Big Ben. That iconic clock has been chiming for 150 years. I can’t help but think that somehow, those repairs could be made without closing down the clock. Once it is stopped, is it guaranteed that it will start again? I’ve never been to London, never heard Big Ben except in movies, but it is a bit demoralizing to think that people who have relied on that faithful clock for generations, will have to get along without it. There’ll be a deafening silence, like a huge hole in daily life for Londoners.

As I glanced out my window, a tiny, fast object zipped past. A hummingbird! I had been seeing one in my Rose of Sharon bush and in the red flower in the pot on my deck so I thought I’d try, once again, to put out my hummingbird feeder with sugar water.

Rain on flowers

This time, it worked! A lovely little fellow with a green, shiny back and a red throat buzzed right over. Funny thing is, he sits on a limb and watches to make sure nobody else gets a drink of that delightful nectar. And, while I was on the deck yesterday, he flew over and was within three feet of my face, hovering and staring at me. If they were any bigger, with their fearless spirits and sharp bills, they’d be dangerous.

Are you ready for the eclipse, come Monday? I remember my mother describing one when she was a girl. I believe that one happened in 1918.

My coffee cup is empty, so that means a refill. I hope your Wednesday is filled with many wonderful things and may all your mysteries be cozy ones.
