Soggy Saturday Morning

Soggy Saturday Morning

Rain pelts the house, dripping, dropping from the eaves, running in rivulets down the driveway and puddling in the yard. Thunder stomps through the clouds, loud, then dying away in the distance. Nemo makes every step I do, just to be sure I’m safe from that loud voice that grumbles and growls outside.

This is what happens when the cold breath of winter meets the warm air of spring. I’m afraid that winter isn’t letting go this year without a tussle. The groundhog was wrong about there being only six more weeks of winter. That old saying that if March comes in like a lion, it’ll go out like a lamb, may just be wrong too. After all, there’s only one more day of March and the weatherman says the temperature will drop below freezing tonight. So, who can you trust these days?

Yesterday was a nice day, a good day for a walk and snapping spring pictures. This picture of part of my white mulberry tree doesn’t have anything to do with spring, but isn’t it interesting? The patches of tiny bluets, scattered across the yard, turned out more white than blue in the picture, but they are, honestly, a lovely blue.

The wild violets are, at last, are awake and blooming.

Peg’s pink hyacinth by the sidewalk is pretty. One of the earliest signs of spring is the hardy dandelion. Be kind to dandelions. They furnish early food for the bees, their roots are medicinal, and their flowers can be used in salads.

Last year at this time, my lilac bush was flowering. This year, it has tightly folded buds that are waiting until they are sure it’s safe to come out. Nature is flowering all around us even though the spring is slow to come. Let’s enjoy it, enjoy the rain, and be grateful for God’s goodness.

What to do on a rainy, soggy Saturday? Of course, read! Grab a cozy mystery, snuggle under your favorite afghan and take a trip to a place where the coffee is always hot and the welcome is always warm. Darcy, Flora, and Ned send you an invitation to drop in and share the day with them.
