Snowflakes on the Tree

Snowflakes on the Tree

The tree is fully decorated now–my mother’s crocheted snowflakes are on it. Somehow, when I put decorations on the tree December 1, I couldn’t find the boxes of my mother’s snowflakes. Where were they? Well, yesterday, I found them tucked away safely inside another box and now the tree looks finished, completed, and ready to welcome Christmas. Since Mom’s snowflakes are on the tree, will we see the real, white, wet ones come down from these cloudy skies before nightfall?

It’s fun seeing a cold front come in. I’m sitting in front of my window on the world watching left-over leaves move in the trees and noticing how wet the pavement looks. The sky is gray, there’s an almost-unfelt dampness in the air, and the warm air that’s in place this morning had better make the most of its time here because the weatherman says the bottom will drop out of the thermometer tonight. In fact, we’ve probably already reached our high for the day.

I’m baking oatmeal for breakfast. This is like the first recipe I mentioned except I am adding dates and nuts to the raisins and apples. Perfect for a winter morning when the temperature is on the way down.

I don’t like ice and I’ll admit, if I had to get out and work in the snow, I wouldn’t find it quite so beautiful, but if, like the forecast suggests, we do get snow, I’ll be as excited as a child to see it come down. It is so soft and white and transforms even the grayest landscape into a winter wonderland.

If you are still wondering what in the world you’ll buy a certain someone for Christmas, may I suggest a book? Books last a lifetime and can be read and re-read. They probably offer more entertainment for the money than just about anything. Books rate high on my list of things to give (or get).

It’s hard to believe next Saturday will be Christmas Eve, isn’t it? I hope the spirit of goodwill, peace, and joy fills your heart. When I consider the blessings God has given me, I’m overcome with gratitude. You, my readers, and the fans of cozy mysteries are among those blessings.
