When an Old Friend Appears Once Again

When an Old Friend Appears Once Again

Yesterday, I saw an old friend for the first time since he left Oklahoma, many years ago. Honestly, I had forgotten about him. Now, isn’t that sad? Please don’t tell him this. But there he was, looking as happy and bright as he had when our friendship was new.

He is a well-seasoned traveler and, although he carries his age well, he is no spring chicken! You see, I know all about his humble beginnings. He didn’t always look so spiffy; in fact, not to be unkind, but I thought at first he looked rather drab. Not bragging, but after I met him, he improved considerably.

As I said, he began life in Oklahoma but soon traveled to the great state of Texas. You see, my niece Teresa took a liking to him and home with her he went! When she moved to Colorado, he went too. I wonder how he likes the snow way up there in Colorado’s mountains. Does he enjoy looking out of the window at the occasional black bear who ambles through? Does he ever long for those wind-swept, sunny plains or the snug hills and hollows of his birth?

Teresa mentioned him the other day and my memory awakened. She won’t tell him I had forgotten all about him. He may have a tough exterior but inside, he has feelings that might be easily hurt. So, when I asked her to send a picture to refresh my memory, she did. I’d like for you to meet him too. He’s one of those people who is a day-brightener and, if you don’t feel happier just by looking at him, well, anyway, I hope you do. He faces life with a happy grin, not minding if he isn’t dressed in the latest fashion. Heat or cold, sun or snow, his personality never changes and that smile never fades. He’s a friend worth remembering.
