ICE

ICE

As I look out my front window this morning, I see that rooftops, yard, and street are all covered in white. It isn’t snow. It’s ice. A coating of ice fell yesterday and we may get more today. Who knows? The wind isn’t blowing. Dark trees, rimmed in white, seem frozen too. It’s a frozen world.

However, this first cup of coffee is hot and warming. Nemo happily chews his bone. He wanted to take it out to bury it, but I vetoed that. “There are no leaves in which to hide it,” I told him. He must have accepted that and decided it was best to stay inside.

We always caution drivers to stay safe if they must drive on ice and that’s good advice. In fact, the best decision would be not to drive. We also need to stay safe if trying to walk on it too. There’s no way to get any traction, no safe place to put your foot when there’s nothing but frozen water. So, be content to stay inside, happy to have a warm place and a good book. To the children who feel they must venture forth, Happy skating!
