Commemoration of a Happy Event

Commemoration of a Happy Event

For the first time in a long time, the temperature was above freezing when I woke up. The ground is wet but the snow–where did it go? Will we have more? My snowman indicator has not changed positions on the mantel and he keeps his secretive smile. Does he know something I don’t?

Yesterday the gray and white cat that I haven’t seen for a while, came around to pay a call. I asked if he had come for dinner and I take it his Meow meant yes because he finished the can of tuna flavored cat food, daintily wiped his mouth, and set off up the street for parts unknown. I’m quite sure the wild birds who have gotten used to lunching at my feeder will be back to see what’s cookin’. Tiny juncos, pine siskins, goldfinches, chickadees, a titmouse and even a downy woodpecker sometimes gather on the ground or in the feeder. Blue jays, cardinals come too. And, of course, the squirrels who have no compunction about eating up the seeds and leaving none for anyone else.

Winter seems the perfect time for friends to get together. The other day, Peg asked me over for a cup of hazelnut coffee. It was pleasant to sit in front of the fireplace and chat with a friend, coffee cup in hand. Then last Wednesday was Fran’s luncheon. That is always a good time of fellowship. I’m looking forward to the next gathering of Cozy Critters too.

January is nearly half gone and my writing deadline looms ever closer; however, the stories are going well and are nearly ready for a final, microscopic re-read and edit. I like to have the stories as perfect as I can get them before emailing them off to Ohio.

Sometimes in the bustle of life, I forget important moments. Yesterday was one of those moments that a most important date passed and its significance slipped my mind. How could that have happened? It was one of those milestones, a date when everything changed and took a new directions. So, to my most favorite couple in all the world,Matt and Dawn, I want to say, Happy Anniversary a Day Late. May you have at least five times as many happy anniversaries together and many grandchildren.
