Boldly Braving the Cold

Boldly Braving the Cold

Yesterday, I wrote about the approach of winter’s cold. This morning, the unwelcome visitor has arrived. We only thought spring was on its way. I mean, anyone would have thought so–February is drawing to a close, March is just around the corner, but weather is unpredictable and pretty much does what it wants.

Did Nancy, Jane, and Carolyn let winter’s cold and frigid breath get the upper hand? No! They came for the critique, never mind the dropping thermometer or the near-freezing mist. With the fireplace blazing, plenty of coffee, and cookies close at hand, to say nothing of warm conversation, the critique got underway.

Nancy, author of The Grace Impact, has been concerned with a sick family member. We hope he is soon completely well. She has also been reading some Civil War romances by Sandra Merville Hart.

Carolyn brought three of her delightful oil paintings to share with us. I’ve included pictures of them here, thanks to Jane, the photographer. I like them all, but am a little partial to the painting of the boots, hat, and flute.

Jane has been busy copying and saving old pictures as well as organizing her office. Busy and talented women, all of these.

We missed Peg and hope she’ll be able to be with us next time. She assured me that she has been reading and will tell us more at our next meeting.

Catching them up to date with the latest on Moonstruck and Murderous, I gave a run-down of my first edit from the editor and asked for suggestions on the eye-catching cover picture. When a writer is in need of fresh ideas, a critique group is so nice! In fact, they are pretty much indispensable.

All in all, although the weather was frightful, the cozy critique was delightful. I’m looking forward to our next one.
