Bits and Pieces, This and That

Bits and Pieces, This and That

Yesterday was a day made up of bits and pieces; not a whole, organized picture, but a mosaic sort of day. A visit to Hobby Lobby and the art department is always fun. That’s a place that encourages the imagination to soar–tools that can be used to create.

And, since it was the first of the month, a visit to Nemo’s favorite veterinarian and those monthly flea, tick, and heartworm pills. Yucky subjects, but a fact of life that must be dealt with and prevented. I made other stops throughout the day, but they were fun stops. It was teller appreciation day at the bank and when I complimented a teller, her face lit up. A compliment doesn’t cost a thing, doesn’t take but a few seconds, and can really make someone’s day. (Made me feel good too.)

The weather is still mild but fall is definitely here. Squirrels know it. They are gathering acorns right and left. I watched one yesterday as he , in fits and starts, scampered across the back of my glider. He stopped several times to readjust the acorn in his jaws. Plainly, he was looking for a place to bury that oak seed. Not finding one on the glider, he hopped into a potted plant. Ah! Success! His busy little paws went to work digging a hole to plant food for coming cold months. Will he remember where he put it? I sincerely doubt it. Do squirrels really have a storehouse tree somewhere, a hollow in an oak with a pile of acorns in it? I’ve never seen one. Have you?

Come to think of it, I guess my piecemeal day was sort of like that squirrel–a scurry here, a flurry there. But, those bits and pieces made a mosaic of a day. And sometimes, that’s the best day of all.

  1. What a nice post. Reading about everyday errands here and there is so relaxing. I especially enjoyed the picture of the squirrel trying to find a place for his winter hoard.

    • Thanks, Peg. Yes, it was a very nice day. Squirrels are so pesky so it’s a good thing they are cute and entertaining. Now, if we could just say that about mosquitoes!
