A Warm Morning Chat

A Warm Morning Chat

A second cup of coffee, a warm, morning chat with friends–a good way to start the day. It’s cloudy, dampish, and chilly out and it’s hard to adjust to getting up a whole hour earlier. I wonder how many of us let Daylight Savings Time steal some of the joy from the morning?

Sometimes, it seems many negative, bothersome things, like grasping tentacles, reach out to rob the day of joy. A niggling health worry, a problem within a family, a hard decision to be made, an ongoing struggle with finances or relationships or unfulfilled dreams. None of these things bring a sense of peace or happiness. So, what to do? How to handle them?

Prayer is a relief and a comfort. It’s therapeutic to confess to an all-knowing God who has all power and wisdom, just how we feel and sort of shift all these joy robbers onto His shoulders, content to let Him handle them. Funny thing is, when worries aren’t blocking our vision, we can see those bright and shining little things, just waiting to brighten a dreary day.

Sometimes, joy comes unexpectedly, flowing over us like a ray of warming sunshine; sometimes, we have to hunt for it as diligently as someone would search for gold. It’s strange that we don’t have to search for negative stuff at all. It’s there, waiting to chip away at peace and the warmth of well-being. But, joy is all around us too, we just have to be diligent to look for it and recognize it when we find. It’s worth the search.
