Three Plus One Equals Fun

Three Plus One Equals Fun

The hearth sent out a welcome warmth and the aroma of fresh-perked coffee filled the air. The table was set with paper, pens, cookies; all was ready. The arrival of Jane, Nancy, and Peg completed the scene. Three gals plus one (me) made for an afternoon of fun!

Nancy has written Rescued by the Arms of Love as a possible inclusion in Abba’s Heart, a compilation of devotionals by different writers. This was a story of an episode from her childhood when God’s love was fully demonstrated to her. She handed out paper copies, read, and we offered constructive suggestions. It was an inspiring piece and we were privileged to read it. Nancy is also the author of The Grace Impact. If you don’t have your copy of this book, I hope you get one. Lots and lots of encouragement within its pages.

Peg said she’ll be glad when February rolls around, because then she’ll have time to read. February is almost here, Peg. This is the last day of January. In the meantime, she has managed to read No Escape Claws by Sofie Ryan. “What was there about this book that especially appealed to you?” I asked. “Interesting plot, good characterization, subtle clues scattered along the way,” she said. Yes!

Peg is looking forward to delving into The Gun Also Rises and Let’s Fake a Deal    by Sherry Harris.  Others that await are On the Wrong Side of the Paw by Laurie Cass and One Potato, Two Potato, Dead  by Lynn Calhoun.

Jane has finished a lovely Prismacolor drawing of a southwest scene. Colors, subject matter, all reflect the influence of New Mexico, Arizona, or Texas. She has sketched out another still life which will soon spring to life beneath her talented fingers.

I read my work in progress, a story about three friends who were also in a cozy mystery group, which the Cozy Critters themselves inspired. Boy! Did I get some good suggestions. I now have a retired, brilliant law officer who has been brought back into service to solve a most mysterious murder. And this marvelous insight: If the poor deceased was wearing his wedding coat at the time of his unfortunate demise, he could not have been killed the night before the wedding. Hmm. True. Gotta work that out. All in all, my story is much more interesting, compact, and to the point than it was before I read it to them. Critiques! Vital to an author. Thanks, Critters.
