The Mystique of a Moist August Morning

The Mystique of a Moist August Morning

A loud crash directly overhead woke me. Thunder! Lightning shivered through my curtains and rain pounded against the windows. Waking up to a thunderstorm is a great way to start the day. But, looking past the moist mystique of a thunderstorm, what will these summer hours hold?

Today, I’d like us to discuss looking past. Sometimes, we get hung up on looking forward to an event and forget to look past it to what comes next. Christmas, for example. Everything from October through December 25 is geared toward Christmas–parties, planning, gift buying, family togetherness, more gift buying and then comes the big day. After that? What a let-down. You know why? We haven’t been looking past the warmth of Christmas to a cold and rather featureless January. We should remember that Christmas is only one day out of the year, one exciting, breath-taking, happy day. But those other days? They can be pretty great too if we remember they are coming and plan to take that Christmas glow and joy right along with us into the New Year.

Working toward the release of a book is  certainly looking forward to a big day but, after publication, what comes next? Well, it’s keeping the excitement going. Joy is contagious. It needs to reach out from me, the writer, to you, the reader and cause some excitement in your life too. The best way to do that? Word of mouth. Ah! Those lovely, promising, enticing words. Who should they come from? First of all, me. Then, my publisher, then you! Yes, you, as you read and tell others they will enjoy the book too.

This is where marketing comes in. Things like guest blogging, interviews, emails. And that brings me to a couple of things. Tomorrow, hopefully, I’ll be able to tell you about a good way to spread the news. And, next week, there’ll be another. So, you might be looking for those things.

What do I do when I’m thinking about the mystique of mysteries and the mystery of spreading the word? I doodle. And think, and doodle some more.

When you are thinking about an upcoming event and looking past that happening to what comes next, what do you do? Christmas is coming, but so is January. Keep up the enthusiasm. Book launches are coming, but so is marketing. How to keep the passion going strong? By the Fright of the Silvery Moon is released. Lovers of cozies who enjoy Ned McNeil and her friends, come on in to her Victorian house, have a cup of coffee, and get ready for more than a few shivers. It starts with a bang, and I believe the momentum keeps going.

A great cozy. Ned, her cat Penny, and her rescued dog Ulysses have several “frights” along the way to uncovering this unique mystery. Blanche Manos has intertwined the history of Oklahoma with tall tales and superstitions in this gripping tale of suspense.–Amazon Review
