Talk to Them

Talk to Them

This morning, I got up thinking about children and their importance. If you are fortunate enough to have children or grandchildren, nieces or nephews, let me assure you that they are more important than anyone or anything else in this world. We all love our kids, but sometimes in the rush and pressure of job or health or one crisis after the other, we lose sight of how important they are. More than our jobs or our pleasures or our significant others, those kids around us should be our foremost concern.

Talk to them. Listen to them. Don’t condemn, just listen and try to see things from their viewpoint. Youngsters need us more than they need “things”. We might think they don’t listen, but they do, and, surprisingly enough, they remember. You see, we are important to them too and if we are missing, believe me, somebody else or something else will fill the gap we leave.

There’s a reason God gave us all parents. Youngsters have conflicting feelings and they experience pressure on every hand. We as adults have problems and challenges, but they have problems and challenges too. Sometimes those conflicts may seem overwhelming. That’s when you need to be there. Every child needs someone who thinks that child is the greatest thing that ever was, who believes in him or her, and who will always be there for him. The parent may not approve of the child’s decisions or friends or choices, but does always approve of the child.

The world is changing quickly and children need an anchor, a rock they can depend on. Just listen, talk to them, hear them. try to understand and, most of all, let them know you love them.
