Our Framework: First, the Declaration of Independence:

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

And then, the Constitution of the United States. Our bedrock, the sturdy foundation upon which a great nation was begun. Let us never, ever, ever forget!

Once a teacher, always a teacher. As someone who loves and respects the Constitution of the United States of America, I’m presenting an Independence Day Pop Quiz. The first ten amendments to the Constitution are our Bill of Rights. Mentally (you don’t really need to print this) put the number of the amendment in the blank before the right that it describes.

___Which amendment guarantees that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed?

___Our freedom of speech, press, religion and the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances is guaranteed by which amendment?

___Which amendment sets out provision concerning prosecution?

___Which amendment sets forth conditions and limitations for quartering soldiers in our houses?

___We are protected from unreasonable search and seizure by which amendment?

___Which amendment says the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people?

___The right to a speedy trial and to be confronted by the witnesses against the defendant, to obtain favorable witnesses, and to have the assistance of counsel for the defense.

___Right to a trial by jury

___Protection from excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishments.

___Rule of construction of Constitution …The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
