I’ve always liked that French word Potpourri. It sounds lovely, like the mixed fragrances of dried flower petals it represents. However, “hodgepodge” and “patchwork” mean about the same thing. My thoughts this morning are a mixture, a patchwork quilt of jumping from one subject to the next. You are invited to share them.
The wind is not blowing this morning. In fact, not a breeze stirs the leaves. What a difference from yesterday’s 40 to 50 mph gusts. And, since I over-slept, the sun is shining. It is a beautiful day. The birds, I’m sure, will take advantage of the sunshine to discuss house plans and the availability of worms and insects for the future generation, which brings me to the word “tenacity”. Those little feathered tufts have to have a lot of tenacity to last the winter, especially a winter such as this one.
Tenacity is good in people too. When things are tough and the outlook is dim, just hanging in there takes fortitude and courage: tenacity. That’s a word that writers call upon a lot. Speaking of which, I asked Dawn to read the first few chapters of Moonlight Can Be Murder. Her comment, “I want more.” I so appreciated that–warmed the cockles of my heart. Which reminds me that tenacity can be made stronger by encouragement. We all thrive on a little encouragement now and then.
Family members have opportunities to encourage other family members every day. We should not miss a chance to bless someone else. Last night, Matt took the time to help me over a computer glitch. (Actually, the glitch wasn’t with the computer, it was with me!) That was certainly encouraging to me.
Today, I’m sure, will be a potpourri of happenings. Peg has invited me over for a cup of coffee. Now, that’s a happy way to start any day–coffee with a friend. I’m expecting to be blessed today and I’m hoping for opportunities to encourage and bless others. In this morning’s Bible reading, a particular verse held a promise for me, for you, and for our Nation:
“And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day” (Deuteronomy 6:24).
Now, that is a promise and a blessing and a big helping of encouragement!
