More Digging Through

More Digging Through

I turned up some more half-forgotten things as I was digging through boxes. One thing was this very old picture of me and our gentle Guernsey cow Boots. I guess one of my brothers made the picture. He was into photography at that time.

Good night! Campaign buttons from the fifties, pictures of grade school classmates, a picture of one of my first teachers, on and on. Do I enjoy all this? Hmm. As my granddaughter used to say, I do but I don’t. I’m glad I’ve kept these reminders but they make me a bit sad too, for times and people gone by.

How do you feel about past memories? I’m sure that, like most people, some are good and some are not so good. Do you ever wish you had selective memories and simply discard those of things we’d rather forget? Perhaps there should be a mental wastebasket marked “Nevermore” to borrow from Poe. Then, we’d remember the bad nevermore. The other would be a mental shelf marked, Keep. These memories we could go to and think about as day brighteners and moments of joy.

Anyway, with more digging through drawers and boxes, who knows what I’ll turn up next? It’s a mystery.
