Intuition?

Intuition–do you have it? Webster says it is direct knowledge without having rational thought; insight. I think, to some degree, we all have it. It’s a matter of whether we’re aware and listen to it.

Flora Tucker has intuition, a “feeling in her bones.” And, she’s usually right. Her daughter, Darcy Campbell, may have it, but she’s so busy looking for concrete answers that she doesn’t always listen to it.

Intuition is a funny thing, an interesting attribute. It is dangerous in a way because it could cause someone to leap to conclusions. That’s not good–leaping or jumping, because the conclusion could be the wrong one. No, insight is being aware, maybe not even consciously aware, of attitudes and actions. Actually, it’s clues and hints. Sometimes, it’s even body language or things that are left unsaid. Sometimes, it’s a feeling in your bones, as Flora said, that something is or isn’t good, has or hasn’t happened.

Intuition is an interesting thing. It’s a very useful tool when writing cozy mysteries.
