Idle Thoughts and Sunny Moments

Idle Thoughts and Sunny Moments

As the sunlight tips the tree-tops and the grass is damp with dew,

When the air is filled with birdsong, then my thoughts return to you.

Sliding slowly into the day with a cup of coffee and idle thoughts is nice. No deadline to meet this morning, nothing pressing (except, of course, for editing Moonstruck) just looking at the greenness of spring and enjoying the beauty. Then, a solemn thought seeps in. Time! Time is our most precious possession and how we use it determines our lives and the lives of others.

As spring takes a real foothold in the year, I think how quickly the seasons pass. I think about a friend whose funeral is today and the childhood days we shared. We almost always baked cakes when we got together. Especially chocolate cakes! We were big fans of Hershey’s Cocoa.  I tried stirring up my first mayonnaise cake while I was with Beverly. Then, as we grew up, we drifted apart, leading separate lives and going different directions. But, her funeral is today and the world will be a little emptier because Beverly is gone.

Childhood days pass so swiftly, don’t they? Little ones, children only yesterday, it seems, are grown with families of their own. Our own babies are with us for such a short time and suddenly, we realize those childish games and toys and make-believe stories are things of the past. Our time of influence has passed.

But, these are heavy, deep thoughts this morning and I was going to slip gently into the day. It’s springtime, a time of hope and renewal and life! Each hour, each day is a gift. Let’s celebrate those hours and be thankful!
