Hope Blooms in Springtime

Hope Blooms in Springtime

It lifts its cheerful head above the grass each spring in the same place in my yard at about the same time, this bright yellow crocus. The oak tree that towers above it is still dark and bare of leaves. The ground isn’t yet warm so how does this tiny crocus know that it’s time to wake up and take a look around? I have no idea but I always look for it and seeing it makes me smile.

This tiny spring flower is pretty fragile but I don’t think it knows that. It just obeys its inner timetable and struggles above the ground. Hope is kind of like that. All else around may be pretty bleak but somewhere from deep within something stirs and lifts its head. True, winter is still here but it can’t last. One of these days, other flowers will bloom. Hope gives the human spirit the will to survive even the coldest, barest days. Light over darkness, good over evil, hope will bloom into reality.
