The Time I Wrote a Best-Seller

The Time I Wrote a Best-Seller

At times in the past I’ve been told to “lighten up.” Looking back at a couple of posts, I think I need to lighten up again. Put on your whimsy hat and come with me to the land of make believe and The Time I Wrote a Best-Seller.

I’ve read lots of cozy mysteries as years have gone and come

Some were very mild and sweet; others scared me some.

Until one day I had a plan, a daring plan and new–

I’d read so many cozies, I could write one too.

I grabbed some paper, sat right down, and thought and thought and thought

Until a story came to me; at last, I had a plot.

The characters, I chose with care and felt I knew them well.

You won’t believe what happened next; it’s near too strange to tell.

Those people I’d created were stubborn, mean, and strong.

They changed the plot, they changed the words, they told the story wrong.

I’d never read such goings on; my hair rose on my head.

I wrote the things they told me with dire and mounting dread.

If you should read the story, please know it wasn’t me;

It was those headstrong characters who wrote that mystery!
