Coffee Keeps the Plumber Going

Coffee Keeps the Plumber Going

Do you ever encounter a plumbing job that is small enough not to need a plumber? I do, quite often. I remember one in particular. A mysterious puddle appeared under my sink and my heart sank. Oh, no! How did water get there? Visions of plumber bills danced in my head. Determined to solve that mystery myself, I pulled things out from under the sink, and took a look. A small hose-like thing dangled stubbornly in front of my eyes. It didn’t look as if it belonged there. I sat, poured another cup of coffee, and gathered my resolve.

One or two cups later, I felt fortified. Flashlight in hand, I crawled under the cabinet, hoping no creepy crawlies lived there. I shone the small beam upward, but saw mo gaping hole that looked like it needed a hose. I’d have to push myself  in a little more but, in order to do that, a pillow for my aching back was in order. So, with pillow below me and flashlight in hand, I stuck my head under again and located a hole.

Threading the errant hose through the opening was like threading a needle, but I finally got everything in place, re-connected, cabinet dried, things put back under the sink, and the job was complete. So now, I think I’ll add plumber to my title.

When the days grow shorter, indoor pursuits seem to be more in order–not the pursuit I’ve just mentioned, the water under the sink, but happier activities, like reading. I’ve been enjoying many indoor hours lost in the escapades of Miss Julia, a book series by Ann B. Ross. If you haven’t read any of her books, I’d like to recommend them. Well-wriiten, these are stories that draw the reader in and make her feel a part of the adventure.

The first day of fall is officially September 23. This is when days and nights are equal. It’s a signal, a reminder that you need to have your book shelf well stocked with cozy mysteries for the coming cold days.

May your autumn days be bright with pleasant happenings, your coffee be hot and strong, and under your cabinet remain dry. And, may all your mysteries be warm, cozy ones.
