Bunny, Beans, and Banana Bread

Bunny, Beans, and Banana Bread

As a writer, I’m always on the lookout for a clue to spark a new mystery, but the only clue I followed when I arrived at Robbie’s luncheon yesterday was the delicious aroma of food. Those tantalizing scents didn’t remain a mystery long; they led me straight to the kitchen. That’s where I found a big pot of brown beans and a pan of cornbread. Salads, apple pie, and banana bread completed the menu.  A ceramic Easter bunny sat in the center of the table.

Peg, Jane, and I were the first to arrive. Susan came next, followed by Beth. But, anyone listening to the happy chatter would have thought there were a dozen of us. That’s the best thing about luncheons–gathering and talking. A trip to Belize, one of our group moving to Nebraska, current goings on, both the good and the bad, books we are reading; we talked about these and more.

Another fun thing: in South Carolina, Fran was hostessing a luncheon at the same time. I thought of her, past times around her table, present times around Robbie’s table, and felt blessed to know these friends and be part of the warmth of another monthly ladies’ luncheon. Fun, food, and friendship: there’s no mystery about any of that.

Manos Meadows Mysteries are cozies, inviting you to come on in for a cup of coffee and a chat around the fireplace, but beware! They are not bedtime stories. They have a little extra shiver. The Cemetery Club set the tone. If you’ve read it, you know about the trip through a dark cavern which held a shocking secret, the body that disappeared, and a headlong flight off the side of a mountain. But then, that’s why the books are called mysteries, cozy or not.
