Where in the World Did Daylight Go?

Where in the World Did Daylight Go?

We wake this morning to a new day, a new week, and an old way of figuring daylight. In other words, Daylight Savings Time has ended. We here in Arkansas are back on Central Standard Time. Then, there’s Eastern Standard, Mountain Standard, and Pacific Standard. In other words, we’re back on God’s time, as we’ve actually been all along. Do you remember the old story about cutting one end off a blanket and sewing it on the other end to make it longer? That’s what Daylight Savings Time reminds me of. The sun comes up, the sun goes down, undisturbed by all the contrivances of mankind.

This morning, it’s lighter out at 6:30 than it was yesterday morning at this time. But, oh my goodness! Tonight! Tonight, darkness will creep around an hour sooner. We’ll get used to it. We’ll adjust, but my question is, why must we? Why can’t we keep time the same all year and not have these two big roll backs or roll outs? And, who decides this anyway? I don’t recall voting on it; do you? It must be one of those mysteries to which nobody knows the answer.

Nemo does well with time changes. They’re all the same to him. When he’s hungry, he eats; when he’s sleepy, he sleeps. It’s all okay. But we who are ruled by the clock have a harder time of it.

Yesterday, with that hour I had saved all day, I edited Moonstruck, cleaned house, baked cranberry muffins and chocolate chip cookies and…well, my goodness, it’s no wonder I was so tired last night. In fact, with all those hours I saved all summer and put them to good use, it’s amazing that I’m not worn to a frazzle with things accomplished during Daylight Savings Time!

I’m so used to running in high gear, that it’ll be difficult to adjust and slow down. Why, I might even get to church an hour earlier this morning. Maybe it’s a good thing darkness and bedtime will come sooner. By that time, I’ll surely be ready to rest.
