When the Storm Becomes Vicious

When the Storm Becomes Vicious

This time it was Dayton, Ohio, who received the fury of a turbulent storm. As I read about this, I thought how quickly and without warning people’s lives change; often, that change is forever. In a few moments time, a violent, twisting wind, or rising flood waters devastate lives and rearrange the future. Arkansas and Oklahoma are suffering the aftermath of stormy skies. Rivers and lakes are rising; creeks are rampaging, and dams are strained to capacity. Judging from weather forecasts, it isn’t over yet. The Arkansas River is forecast to be 42.5 feet by Wednesday and also by Wednesday (tomorrow) the chance for more severe storms increases here. Scary times, these.

Since life is so unpredictable and we humans are so fragile and vulnerable, it only makes sense that we treasure each other. Human frailties can be forgiven or overlooked. We care for and help each other just as we’d hope to be cared for and helped.

Life is unpredictable. We can plan and build and it all vanishes when things happen over which we have no control. Realizing that, we can prepare as much as we’re able, be ready to give aid wherever and whenever it’s needed, and realize that life and peace and security are tenuous. We can pray and believe and hope. We can be grateful for each other and for each day that we are given.
