Tuesday Thoughts

Tuesday Thoughts

Good morning. The Folger’s coffee is good and hot; the sun is shining and this looks to be a beautiful spring day. Then, tomorrow, more spring storms. But, all this rain is good for plants.

Even my maple and oak trees are putting out tiny leaves and tendrils. I love the fresh, clean color of the first greening. Some of my plants and herbs from last year are making a comeback. The chocolate mint and spearmint appear unfazed by a long, cold winter. My sister-in-law gave me a fern that has a history. She got the start from one of my mother’s ferns in Mom’s front yard, years ago. She took it home, it grew, and needed to be divided. So, I have the grandchild of a fern that was once Mom’s. As a bonus, along with it came a red shamrock. The shamrock, too, has a history. Its parent plant was from my sister Helen. Isn’t it neat that plants and flowers have stories to tell, just like people?

Sunday, we took a look at the part of town devastated by the tornado a few weeks back. The destruction is amazing and truly awful. I can’t even imagine the amount of power in wind that twisted a tall, steel tower into a pretzel and flung it onto the ground, pulled up trees, flattened homes and tore off roofs. All of this in only a few minutes time, a long, erratic path across part of town.

The serenity of this morning is a far cry from an angry storm. With each new morning, there’s hope and courage and an optimism that is all a part of springtime.
