Christmas Eve services at Matt and Dawn’s church, dinner afterward, opening gifts, gift opening and dinner at my house on Christmas, it was a blessed, peaceful, special time and I was grateful. The most important part of it all was being together and celebrating the birth of our Lord.
We finished lighting the Advent candles yesterday. Dawn and Nathan read Scripture as Matt rehearsed the meaning of the candles. We were together and I was grateful.
Christmas, to me, is the ending point of the year. If the year were a book, Christmas would be the denouement, gathering up loose ends, tying the year into a nice bundle and tucking it away. Even as I say that, I pray that the glow of love and peace that surrounds Christmas lingers. I don’t want to tuck those things away; I want them to continue.
This morning as I enjoy the first cup of coffee, I consider putting away all the ornaments and lights and decorations. It is a new day, a new beginning, given to me as a gift from God and I am grateful.
