The Flowers They Leave Behind

The Flowers They Leave Behind

Jonquils are blooming, usually in clusters. Have you ever thought of them as footprints of others that they have left behind? They are signs that someone has passed this way and loved flowers and springtime.

At Ben and Tep Willis’, out on the river, there are remnants, reminders of the family who settled here, set down roots, and called it home. The old and gnarled cedars still line an overgrown walkway. A few rocks show that a fireplace warmed the house, and Tep’s yellow daffodils bloom every spring, visible proof of the lady who planted them, many years ago.

Times may change, people may go, but the flowers are still here. They show up every March, these footprints of my ancestors, like the promise of springtime and hope.
