That Special Person

A renowned evangelist once said that within each person is a God-shaped space. Although we may try to fill that space with other things, nothing but God brings satisfaction.  I believe the same is true of mothers. A mother is the person who gives birth to a child or adopts the child and loves her as her own. Love and selfless dedication define the word “mother”.

We’ve all read stories of heroism, of mothers who risked their lives to save their children. There is, however, an everyday heroism that largely goes unnoticed and, sad to say, is often taken for granted. Dawn and SaraIt’s Mom buying that youngster a new pair of shoes while hers are wearing out; it’s baking a cherry pie for the family when she much prefers lemon; it’s staying up nights administering medicine and soothing a feverish brow then getting up the next morning to attend to her family; it’s encouraging a fearful child who has to stand in front of his class and give a speech, or soothing a little one who is awakened by a nightmare. Being a mom is a hundred and one little things but they all go together in one special title beloved around the world: Mother. I am blessed to have had a wonderful mother. My grandchildren are equally blessed to have my daughter-in-law as their mom.
