That First Good, Hot Cup of Coffee

That First Good, Hot Cup of Coffee

The days are definitely much shorter than they were in August. It is still dark out, although it’s after six a.m. My first cup of coffee sits on the desk, and I take an occasional sip as I write. It’s a good way to start the day.

Yesterday, I noticed a mysterious puddle under my sink. How did water get there? With visions of a visit from a plumber dancing in my head, I determined to solve that mystery. Pulling things out from under my sink, I took a good look. As it turned out, a hose that was supposed to connect to the dishwasher had slipped out of its proper place. Could I fix it? First, I had to find the hole in which to insert the hose and it was dark under the sink.

A flashlight was in order. Farther I crawled under the cabinet, hoping that no creepy crawlies lived there. I shone the small light upward. No hole. I’d have to push myself  in a little more but, in order to do that, I’d need a pillow because the cabinet opening wasn’t very comfortable on my back. So, with pillow below me and flashlight in hand, I stuck my head under again and located the hole from which the hose had slipped.

It took a while, but I finally got everything in place, re-connected, cabinet dried, things put back under the sink, and the job was complete. So now, I think I’ll add plumber to my title.

When the days grow shorter, indoor pursuits seem to be more in order–not the pursuit I’ve just mentioned, the water under the sink, but happier things like reading. I’ve been enjoying many indoor hours lost in the escapades of Miss Julia, a book series by Ann B. Ross. If you haven’t read any of her books, I’d like to recommend them. Well-wriiten, these are stories that draw the reader in and make her feel a part of the adventure.

The first day of fall is officially Sunday, September 23. This is the day when days and nights are equal. It’s a signal–longer nights and shorter days are upon us so be sure you are well stocked with books and coffee. May your autumn days be bright with pleasant happenings and may under your cabinet remain dry. If you encounter any mysteries at all, I hope they are cozy ones.

Plumber, huh. I know who to call. I hate these “problems” arrive without notice & I am always lost as a goose as to what I should do. You did good.

    • Thanks, Carolyn. It wasn’t hard and I was relieved to see the problem. Glad it wasn’t a hole in a line somewhere, or some place that I couldn’t reach.
