Guest Post By An Exceptionally Popular Writer

I am so pleased today to introduce to you my special guest, Sharon Rose Mierke. Sharon is a Canadian author and has been a guest on this blog before, but she has, since that time, added new books. I can personally recommend her books and feel that they will give you hours of reading pleasure. I’ve never met Sharon in person, but we are Facebook friends and she is the kind of person you would like to have living just across the street or next door, the kind you’d like to share a cup of coffee with, and the kind who would be an excellent addition to our Cozy Critter Critique Group. Welcome to my blog, Sharon!

Writers should be read, but neither seen nor heard.

Daphne du Maurier
British novelist (1907 – 1989)

I’m not sure if Daphne meant writers aren’t usually very attractive or was she saying we should be known for our writing only and nothing more. Whatever the case, I’ll tell you a little about my books. But no photo shoot or selfies.

One genre I write is cozy mysteries. They are not only easy to read, they are enjoyable to write. My Mabel Wickles series takes place in a small town somewhere in the Midwest. The protagonist, Mabel, is an older (I hesitate to call her elderly) spinster, who lives in the house she was born in, and owns a shop that had, at one time, been her father’s grocery store. Life doesn’t change much in Parson’s Cove so when a body turns up, Mabel’s detecting instincts turn up too. (Deception by Design, Calamity by the Car Wash, Cold Case Conundrum, Frozen Identity)

I also write the Beryl Swallows mystery series. Beryl is an ex-cop with a shot-up knee but she still loves solving crimes as a private investigator. In book #2, she finds her mother’s old diary and the contents shock her. Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned: never read your mother’s old diaries. Unless, of course, you’re prepared to accept the fact that your mother got away with murder. (Virtual Enemies, Case Close.not)

It may come as a surprise but I also love writing historical fiction. Times gone by have always intrigued me. As a young person, I would read Zane Grey books until I couldn’t keep my eyes open so I would set my alarm for 5 a.m. and finish the book before I left for school. One reviewer said my book reminded her of Zane Grey’s story telling. What a thrill for me!

My historical fiction books include The Widow’s Walk – a story about life on the Texas panhandle during the years of the Civil War. A story of strong family ties but also the struggle to survive.

The first historical fiction book I wrote was Sarah’s Valley. Two children end up alone on a wagon trail when a mudslide covers the wagon train. This is the story told by one of the children, Frank or Winnipesaukee, now almost one hundred years old. It is told to a young man named Patrick Smithson.

This takes us to my latest book, Return to Sarah’s Valley. Patrick is now an old man himself and he tells his story to one of Winnipesaukee’s descendants. This is a story of life during the Great Depression and the deep love and commitment Patrick has for his wife, Molly.

All my books are available on Amazon. My Kindle edition books are ALWAYS 99 cents so you never have to wait for a sale!
