Fireplace Weather

Fireplace Weather

It’s fireplace weather again. The temperature hovers in the thirties and, after a few warm days that lulled me into thinking thoughts of springtime, winter has returned, blowing its icy breath against the spring flowers.

Thankfully, we missed the tornadoes that tore through parts of the South Monday night. It was the equinox and usually there’s a storm on or about that time. I wonder what there is about the days and nights being equal that prompts a restless atmosphere?

To me, weather is a mystery, but that’s all right. Life is more interesting with a few things that nobody is able to harness or completely explain. Looking back at history, weather has influenced a lot of battles and decisions.

Cozy mysteries are a bit different. In the first place, they are figments of the imagination. It’s fun, though, to take a grain of truth, ask “what if” and spin a fictional story. In all the Darcy and Flora as well as the Ned mysteries, you’ll find that weather plays a part, and, beneath the unknown qualities, the dangers and the daring, there are friends and coffee and caring. Fireplace weather–why do we have it on the fourth day of spring? No one knows, but cozy mysteries fit right in.
