She was crouched down by my azalea bush beside the house this morning, watching and waiting. So, I promptly filled the food and water dishes on the front porch. A minute later, there she was, munching and crunching. This little gray and white cat was hungry and, although she wasn’t mine, I fed her. Good idea? Bad idea? I don’t know, I only know she was hungry and needed food.
It’s cloudy this morning and I’m so hoping that means rain. We haven’t had rain in a long, long while. I think I must have some sort of ingrained memory of the Dust Bowl and the fear that those days might return. The Dust Bowl was long before my time, but my parents lived through those dark days and I wonder if I didn’t inherit the fearful dread of a lack of rain.
Life goes on; nothing but turmoil in the daily news, and there’s not much I can do about it. But, I can pray for rain and when a hungry cat appears in my yard, that’s one small problem I can solve.

I wondered about the next “installment” on the neighborhood cat that has found your porch! Enjoyed it.
Yes, he saw me from across the street and here he came! I obliged by putting out food. He has me well trained. Thanks for writing, Carol.
Animals are great at training humans. Buster has me trained to give him a treat or he usually won’t get up in the morning to eat his regular dog food!
Yes, they are. Nemo certainly had me trained! Thanks for writing.
