Can It Be?

Can It Be?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this is the last full day of summer! Didn’t summer just come in the door? And, now, it’s going out again. Hard to believe. Here, in NW Arkansas, the weather is slow to comprehend this and it’s doing its best to hold onto the heat. May I say, it’s doing a pretty good job of holding on too. But, tomorrow is supposed to be cooler and the start of another season, the third of the year.

And so, the year goes. It’s like the wise old squirrel in the hickory tree told the puzzled little puppies (A Golden Book). The seasons are like a big wheel, turning round and round.

I suppose I may be thought to be in the fall season of life. Is that true, or is it only in the way a person looks at it? If I don’t feel I’m in the fall season of life, then, am I?

Even though there’s not much change in trees and birds and squirrels yet, there’s a difference, subtle though it is. No longer are the green leaves bursting with energy. They are beginning to droop and look thirsty. They’ve collected sunshine, provided nuts and berries, and now they’re ready for a nap. The squirrels seems to be finished with bringing a new generation into the world, and the birds are much quieter. They have less bright plumage, too, a result of a busy season of nest building and feeding hungry babies.

Nemo isn’t concerned. He simply takes each day as it comes. Right now, he has his Milkbone and he isn’t sure if he wants to chew it or take it outside and bury it. Or, he may just close his eyes for another nap. He’s had a good summer and will, undoubtedly, have a good fall.

  1. I’m in my fall season of life also. As far as weather goes, each season still seems a surprise when everything around outside changes. Soon, I’ll have to change the closet around again to make room for clothes to keep me warm!

I’ll have to do some closet-changing too, Morgan. Tomorrow is forecast to be cooler here, so that’ll be a good start to fall. I do like to be comfy…not too hot in summer, not too cold in winter. Heh. Thanks for commenting.
