Blessed

Blessed

You know, I realize that I have all I want for Christmas: my family, freedom, health, friends, contentment.  I remember asking Dad what he wanted for Christmas. He’d always say, “For everybody to be well.” That says it all, doesn’t it? The things we want are the things that money can’t buy and are lasting. I hope everyone is as blessed and, even as I say this, I know that many are facing illness or sadness or hardships. May this Christmas bring you hope and joy in those things that don’t fade away. May your memories bring you gladness and not sadness. Most of all, may you feel loved and cared for. You matter and your health and happiness matter.

I love this wonderful Christmas prayer by Robert Louis Stevenson:

Loving Father,
help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.
Close the door of hate
and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing
which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning
make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds
with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven,
for Jesus’ sake.
Amen.
