Autumn Thoughts on a Warm September Day

Autumn Thoughts on a Warm September Day

Yesterday, I decided that I should make my house a little more welcoming for fall, just in case it is really around the corner. If it should come calling and find summer still firmly ensconced, why, it just might not feel welcome and turn around and go back home. We can’t have that! The weatherman keeps saying with Hurricane Gordon or Tropical Storm Gordon, or whatever he is, as a threat, we just may get rain as a spin-off. Rain, cooler temperatures? Okay, maybe fall is riding on the shirttail of Gordon.

So, I put away summer gourds and mantel decoration and dug out some old friends I’ve had for, yea! these many years. And now, my house truly does look more fall-like and welcoming, just in case it decides to make an appearance.

Some of the trees are losing their leaves. I’m not sure if that’s because of a change of seasons or a lack of moisture. But, the leaves on the ground are tinged with color.

Blue jays squawk and chortle and yell, “Thief, Thief!” and butterflies are flitting around, looking like it’s time to leave, and lots and lots of acorns crunch under my feet as I walk down the sidewalk or across the lawn. Yes, I know it’s still early September, but fall is coming. All the signs are here! There’s a change in the air. Don’t you feel it?
