August ends with a cooler than average temperature, cloudy skies, and a quiet street. Early walkers have gone past my window but all else is still. Even the squirrels aren’t out and about yet.
My younger brother sent me a surprise package a few days ago. In it was a model car, a 1949 Ford. He had been to an estate sale of a man who collected model cars and found this one. Our dad once owned a 1949 black Ford so this little car brought back a lot of memories.
I like antiques. They represent an earlier time, a time that was quieter. The best part about those memories of long ago was my family and the comfort of everyone being together. While I was living them, I didn’t realize that those days and years would become treasures. I took them for granted. But now, I realize their worth.
I think that’s why I like antiques–they represent years and people gone by. They bring them back for a moment, like the model car.
