If any of you have ever lived on a farm that had chickens, you know what I mean when I say The Old Mother Hen Syndrome. Hens with a brood of chicks spread their wings and gather their babies under them when danger or bad weather threatens. I have that same inclination when storms or cold is in the forecast here.
Our weathermen all predict that this will be the last pleasant day for a while. Starting tomorrow or tomorrow night, the north wind blows in just about every sort of wintry weather possible. Worst of all the predictions is ice. Next, of course, is amazing amounts of snow, topped off with a frigid wind from the north. I won’t ask, What else, because there’s always just a little something worse that could happen.
Anyway, I hope that all my family and friends are gathered safely inside a warm house with plenty of food and fuel. I also hope that all the homeless people as well as homeless dogs and cats have a snug place to be. I’ll put out food and a box with an old shirt inside for any hapless animals in my neighborhood.
The sun shines brightly this morning but I don’t trust it. I know what’s coming next and I’m like the old mother hens, I want everyone gathered safely in until the bad weather passes.
