Crisp and Clear

This is a beautiful, clear morning. Not a cloud and there’s no wind, but boy! It is cold! The temperature is hovering around thirteen degrees, so the beauty of this quiet morning is deceptive.

Amazing, what I can see with most of the leaves gone. Across from me, above my far neighbor’s house, I see a squirrel nest in the limbs of a tall tree. Birds and squirrels are snugly tucked up somewhere, waiting for the warmth from the sun to get started with their day.

Thoughts that can’t be heard in the busy-ness of noon time show up and make themselves known. For example, that tricky conclusion to the book I’ve been trying to finish, popped into my head. Maybe the ending was there all along, and I just couldn’t hear it but now I do.

An errant breeze moves through and stirs a few brown leaves. But my neighbors, animals and people, are still snug within their homes. The sun is beginning to have its say, lighting up trees and squirrel nest. And the day begins.

  1. Yes, leaves can hide lots of things we never see when they’re in the way!
