It’s fall, I have two oak trees and usually the ground under those trees has just about as many acorns as grass but this year? Nope. No acorns and that has me worried. Why no acorns? The only answer I can figure out is it must have been the terrible hail storm we had last spring. The hail stones were exceptionally large and they fell for at least 30 minutes which is really unusual. So, did the hail do something to my oaks, maybe knock off early buds? I don’t know. Only thing I know is that this year the squirrels won’t have any acorns off my trees.
This morning is pretty crisp and chilly but the sun is shining and the sky is blue. So, I’m thankful for the respite from cold. Winter weather will return, I’m sure of it, but for now, autumn comes tip-toeing back and I’m grateful. And, maybe next year, my oaks will have acorns again.
