My heart is heavy this morning with the news of so many deaths in Texas caused by a tremendous flash flood on the Guadalupe River. The search goes on for missing people, for the little girls from the Christian camp who haven’t been located yet. Pictures of the flood show an angry, brown river, rushing along through previously dry land, devouring everything in front of it, like some hungry monster. Nothing can stop it and the only thing to do is get out of its way, if possible. Stories of heroism come from this disaster, as people work to reach and rescue those they can.
When disaster strikes, caring people do selfless and courageous things. The determination of the human spirit is powerful and awe-inspiring. So, thoughts and prayers are offered up for those whose lives have been touched and/or devastated by this act of nature. May God be very near them all.
