Arkansas weather, much like Oklahoma’s weather, is deceptive. It’s hard to believe that tomorrow the temperature will climb to seventy-two, then drop fifty degrees to a bone-chilling twenty-two Sunday night. Weather is changeable; you can’t count on it remaining one way or the other for very long.
Do you leave Christmas decorations up past December 25? Do you wait until Twelfth Night (January 6, or Epiphany)? Many people take down decorations directly after Christmas and I am one of them. The tree and all the lights are lovely before Christmas, but afterward, they look as if they don’t belong.
Scripture to take into the New Year, Isaiah 43:18-19:
18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

We didn’t do many Christmas decorations, but the ones we do have up will be taken down after the Epiphany, as we usually do.
Many people do that. I just want them put away after Christmas. Just my custom
My mother always kept our Christmas decorations up until the Feast of the Three Kings – Epiphany. I even keep them up longer until my husband starts complaining about the tree being up too long and the lights outside still being on. I take Christmas down mid-January.
In church today, the deacon said we should leave one Christmas item up to remind us of Christmas all year round and all Christmas symbolizes. (And not the tree. He mentioned that. Although he said it would be easier next Christmas.) The Christmas season for us is not over until after the Epiphany.
That’s wonderful, Susan. What a good idea to keep something from Christmas all year as a reminder. Thanks for sharing.
