What is there about the way a lot of people use cell phones that reminds me of the children’s story, Pinnochio? Well, let’s see now. Everywhere I go, whether I’m driving or shopping, I see people with phones stuck to their ears or, worse yet, texting. Wrecks happen, someone bumps into someone else or steps in front of traffic because he or she really isn’t paying attention. The talker’s mind is on the conversation coming into his brain through the miracle of technology.
In the children’s story Pinocchio, the boys didn’t know they were being led astray, until it was too late and they were changed into donkeys. Do you remember? As well as teaching the value of telling the truth, the story taught the consequence of not thinking for themselves.
Children’s stories taught a valuable truth and it’s important that as grown-ups, we remember. Wake up, America! Take the phone out of your ear and see what’s happening.
