The herbs I planted in the container garden last year have all come back. They are green and minty smelling, just as healthy looking as they were last year. What a nice surprise!
Last spring, I got some heirloom seeds from the museum downtown. The idea was that these would make plants that bees and butterflies like. One plant grew enthusiastically, the Joe Pye weed. He actually grew to seven feet tall. Will he come back this year? So far, I’ve seen no sign of it.
The peonies in my garden are about to open. They smell just as sweet as a rose and are beautiful, to boot. The only problem is, they don’t last long enough. All my flowers appreciate the rain we’ve had this spring. A happy surprise was a hosta along the back fence has really grown! They have to be hardy, plus have a healthy sprinkling of luck to avoid being dug up by neighborhood squirrels. Maybe the squirrels are so busy with feeding their new crop of babies that they won’t have time to dig up flowers.
The dark sky promises rain and the flowers love it. All the trees, fully leafed now, stretch upward to welcome the first drops. It’s springtime in Arkansas.
It’s bursting out all over, for sure! Love all the rain.
Yes, the first flowers, grass, and leaves of early spring are so beautiful and welcome. It’s fun to see which flowers will come up from last year. We’ve had a lot of rain! A really hard rain this morning and I think if I’d been driving, I would have had to pull over–probably hard for drivers to see. Parts of Florida, where a friend of mine lives, are very dry and needing rain.
