Fathers and Dads

Today is Fathers’ Day, a time to celebrate those dads in our families. I had a great father and I’m blessed that my son is a great father too. I’m grateful that both Dad and Matt are fathers not in name only, but in being vital parts of their families.

No one would deny that many segments of our society are troubled. I’ve never seen so much violence, outright hatred of our fellow man, and dissatisfaction. I wonder if, when violence happens, how many of the perpetrators had a caring dad in their families.

Children need a stable home and loving parents. Youngsters go through a lot of uncertainties and face many dangers, far more than when I was young. They need the mature guidance of parents to protect and care for them, in all the ways they need.

So, today, I salute fathers, that often over-looked breadwinner of the family. They carry a lot of responsibility and their importance cannot be over-stated.
