A Really Odd Idea

The world is sort of seething with restless, unhappy people. Our country seems among the most restless as people are being told they may have been taken advantage of and should see themselves as victims. Other people are afraid that perhaps they are guilty for wrong thoughts and attitudes, although they’ve never been aware that they are thinking them. But, somebody else told them they are, so maybe they are.

Others are unhappy with their own identities. Perhaps they’d be happier as someone else or something else? After all, it seems to be the newest discovery by those who should be in the know. So, they search and try something brand new.

History is not a very nice set of facts at times. Oh, it happened, but not as it should have happened, maybe, so those who have awoken to the fact that it should be erased and changed go about the process of doing just that. The rest of us look on, not feeling guilt for what past generations have done, but being told we are, nonetheless guilty. We should be ashamed of ourselves. We need to wake up to the fact that what we’ve held to be dear and true for generations is no longer that way.

Patriotism? No, that’s very old-fashioned and doesn’t fit any more. We should be ashamed of our country, not proud of it. This is what others tell us. It’s a bad, bad country. It’s broken and always has been.

But, I have an odd idea. What if each of us was happy to just be ourselves? What if we decided the life God gave us is dear and precious and be grateful for it? What if each person tries to be the best person he or she can possibly be? What if we try loving and forgiving each other and leave guilt and false ideas behind us? What if we are proud of our country, realizing it isn’t perfect by any means, but it is right and good about so many things. What if we value the freedoms God gave us and protect that freedom even if it is frowned upon?

This is an unpopular train of thought, one for which I’m sure I’ll be criticized, but, there it is. It may not be popular nor politically correct, but I’ve never claimed to be those things either.
