Yesterday, I kept alive a years-long tradition in the Manos Meadows household. It had something to do with a quote about cleanliness and godliness, and a little bit about basking in the afterglow, with a feeling of gratitude that I’m able to do this menial job. Every Labor Day, whether it needs it or not, I mop my floor.
Traditions can be good things; they give a sense of continuity, of tying one year to another, of stability. I’m not sure how or when this yearly habit began. Perhaps, in the dim and distant past, I happened to mop on Labor Day and when someone asked how I celebrated and I told her, she thought that was pretty funny and I thought why should I not do the same thing each year?
Mopping is not particularly fun. It is hard work. But, when I’m finished, I sure like the way my floor looks. The only year I’ve not mopped was four years ago when I was mending from a broken leg. So now when I mop, I’m very grateful that nothing is broken and I’m able to keep the tradition going.
Of course, I also spent part of the day with Matt and his family which, I admit, was a lot more fun.
How about you? Do you have a Labor Day tradition? Would you like to share it? Are you one to celebrate old traditions or perhaps start new ones? And, does anybody else celebrate Labor Day in the same zany way as I?

No Labor Day tradition here. Just relaxing. It stormed and rained most the day so we didn’t go anywhere
That sounds like a good way to spend Labor Day. Hopefully, we’ll get some of your storms and rains today. What better weather to stay indoors and read a cozy mystery!
