This gourd turkey has been with me through thick and thin. He stays tucked away for most of the year but during late November, he decides to come out of hiding and see what’s going on in the world of people.
He doesn’t say much but under that black hat, there’s wisdom gained from years of living. If you’ll look closely, you’ll see long-suffering in his acrylic eyes. Like those of us of a certain age, he has seen many changes through the years; in fact, he has changed quite a bit, himself. He began life as a mere seed, believe it or not, and was plucked from the vine when he was just at the right stage. After drying for months and months and a good scrubbing with an S.O.S. pad, he was ready to be transformed through paints and brush into a gentleman turkey.
He traveled with me from Oklahoma to Arkansas and has been a silent and colorful companion through several seasons. He wishes to join me in wishing each one of you a safe, healthy, and joyous Thanksgiving!
