Wineskins, Reviewers, and Praise

Wineskins, Reviewers, and Praise

A Writer’s Psalm

Bless the Lord, O my writing. May all my plots and characters praise the Lord! The earth, O Lord, is rich in books; verily, it overflows with the written word. Large is the competition; great is the challenge to find a place in this plethora of volumes. Humbled, I put fingers to keyboard and try to translate what is in my heart into words.

When wicked reviewers come upon me, to demolish my efforts, may their computers develop innumerable and unexplained glitches. Though an army of naysayers encamp around me, my heart will not fear. Let my writing not be like a wineskin in smoke, dry and useless, but let it flourish like a palm tree and be as a cedar of Lebanon.

Though critics should rise against me, in this will I be confident: that you have blessed me with a love of forming words into people, places, and plots. Therefore, my tongue will be the pen of a ready writer (Ps. 45:1). I will sing, yea, I will praise Your Name, O Lord most high, and dance with joy at the publication of each book. Bless the Lord, O my writing.
