What Do You Do?

What Do You Do?

What do you do to keep sane, relax, give your mind a break during this time of uncertainty? Many places we’d like to go are not open, although, hopefully, restrictions are relaxing. Money is something to be watched closely, so our breaks from reality mustn’t be expensive. But, mini-vacations are needed now more than ever.

May I suggest reading cozy mysteries? Do I suggest that because I write them? No, I think I write them because I like them and they are my preferred subject of light reading and I’d like for you to enjoy them too.

I’ve just re-discovered a mystery writer that I first read many years ago. She is, indeed, my all-time favorite. I remember the night I read The Red Lamp by Mary Roberts Rinehart. I was a guest at my brother’s home in northern Minnesota. We were having a rare thunderstorm, a rip-roaring, tree-lashing, heart-stopping tempest. Wind thrashed the tall birch and pines outside my cabin. Lightning flashed and thunder rumbled. I couldn’t put The Red Lamp down. I read the whole thing and I was hooked on Ms. Rinehart’s books.

The Rinehart mysteries aren’t the only ones that provide wonderful reading. I suggest you go to Amazon, type in cozy mysteries on the search bar and take a look at the possibilities.

Cozies are a wonderful, inexpensive respite from the troubles of reality. They offer a different place, interesting people, a puzzle to solve, and we don’t have to leave the comfort and safety of our homes. I heartily recommend them.
