The Weakest, the Smallest, the Most Innocent

Today is what has been designated Sanctitiy of Life Sunday.  Since January 22, 1973, more than 57 million of the weakest, the smallest, the most innocent Americans have died legally in the United States of America. It is hard to write this without crying. Babies are miracles, made in the image of God. They should be cherished and cared for, valued above anything else.

I often wonder about these little ones and what they might have grown up to be. Which parent would they have resembled more? What would have been their favorite toys, their hopes and dreams for the future? Would one of them have discovered a cure for a dreaded disease or have had such people skills he or she could have made a difference in world peace? Would he or she have been a musician or an artist or a teacher? Would he or she have been a comfort to parents in years to come, when that parent had no one else to turn to?

My view about life seems to be becoming less and less popular. I hear the word “rights” but seldom do I hear “responsibility.” I often wonder why unborn children have no rights. Is it because the government has decided they are not people until they are born? If not a person, what is that unborn child?

Jeremiah 4:4-5: Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; and before you were born I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.’

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. Deuteronomy 30:19

But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 19:14

How can we ask God to bless America when we have a law that legalizes abortion on demand? Certainly, I believe women have rights too, but that tiny child growing inside is a separate, distinct person, he is not an extension of his mother or father. Abortion is not the answer to an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. Somebody, somewhere, would eagerly bring up that child and love him.  Choosing life for her baby is the most noble decision a mother can make.

One of the arguments for abortion is that getting rid of unwanted babies will decrease child abuse. This has not been proven true. In fact, since abortion became legal, child abuse has risen dramatically in the United States. ( http://abort73.com/abortion/child_abuse) When we de-value life, that mind-set reaches across a broad spectrum.

My opinion is that the rise in crime, the number of juveniles involved in violent crime, violence against the elderly or infirm is an outgrowth of legalizing killing unborn children. Abortion is a society turning against itself.

I didn’t enjoy writing this blog post this morning. Probably there will be many who disagree and wish I hadn’t even brought it up. I wish I hadn’t felt it necessary to write about abortion, but I do. You see, the tiniest, most defenseless, and most innocent among us don’t have a voice to speak for themselves. We, as adults and a free nation, are supposed to be their defenders. They have no one else.

  1. God bless you for writing this, Aunt Blanche! I agree totally! Love you!

  2. Thank you, Teresa. Love you too.

  3. “Mom!!” Such a small utterance, yet such a powerful summons that I look for the voice every time I hear it articulated, no matter the background noise.

Ironically, had it not been for a few brave women, I never would’ve worn this most precious title. It is only because those women remembered “the weakest, the smallest, and the most innocent” that I’m now a homeschooling mom. They endured unbelievable circumstances and hardships because they knew the life growing within them was a precious, miraculous gift. Their decisions were hard – the most difficult decisions they had ever made. But the blessings emanating from their sacrifice were incalculable!!

Today, had it not been for the most noble of mothers, I would be childless.

“MOM!!” the voice screams from another room. “Do you hear me, Mom?”

Yes, my precious child. I hear you now…only because your courageous birth mother heard “the weakest, the smallest, and the most innocent” voice in our society – YOUR voice. The voice of the one who fills my home, my heart, and my world with the meaning of LIFE!

This is such a powerful testimony to the courage of birth mothers, the incalculable value of life, and the rewards of adopting a child and making her your own with love and gratitude for the gift of a baby. This was written by a mom who knows what it is to give your heart to a little one and in return, receive the love and joy that only a child can give to her parents. These children are blessed to be in a home where they are cherished and their parents are blessed because the women who gave birth to their little ones chose life, not death.
