Warm Up a Chilly Fall Day

Warm Up a Chilly Fall Day

What can warm up a chilly fall day? A free cozy mystery, of course! And, for two days only, Saturday, October 13 (today!) and Sunday, October 14, the second in the Darcy and Flora mystery series, Grave Shift,  is absolutely free as an ebook on Amazon.

As you know, Darcy Campbell, a retired investigative reporter who lived for a number of years in Dallas, has come back to her hometown of Levi, Oklahoma, to be with her mom, Flora Tucker. Two widows, a comfort and support for each other, they are ready to enjoy the beauty of their hometown and live peacefully ever after. But, on a trip to the cemetery to get ready for Decoration Day, they come upon a dead body lying, of all places, in a brush pile in the cemetery. That, in itself, is bad enough, but to top it off, the deceased person is an old friend. Then, as if to add insult to injury, clouds gather, a tornado forms above them, and one of the worst storms ever lashes Goshen Cemetery and Ventris County. But this is in The Cemetery Club, the first book in the Darcy and Flora series.

This, my friends, was only the start of the problems facing Darcy and Flora. In the second book, Grave Shift, a puzzling letter arrives in the mailbox. Afterward, Darcy wished that her mother had never opened that letter and had tossed it into the trash can. It was sort of like opening Pandora’s Box. A mother is pleading for help in finding her missing daughter. The two-year old trail of clues left by the missing woman leads them to Amarillo, Texas and back again, and deep into the surrounding woods of Ventris County where it is easy for person to lose her way. Not only that, not one, but two rare earthquakes shake  the state, making the people jittery. The quakes don’t do anything good for the nerves of the animals who inhabit the woods either.

Anyway, there’s never a dull moment as Darcy and Flora, once caught up in a series of perilous events, just can’t leave things alone until they’ve found the murderer. Of course, this isn’t easy and it doesn’t happen overnight, but these two are not ones to quit just because of potentially deadly obstacles and danger along the way.

So, grab a cup of hot chocolate or coffee, find your favorite chair, listen to the rain upon the roof, and settle in for a trip to Ventris County. I think you’ll be glad you did.
